L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine, sometimes called simply carnitine, plays an important role in cellular transport. Most importantly, l-carnitine transports fatty acids into the mitochondria of a cell.

L-carnitine has recently become popular as a nutritional supplement to boost levels naturally found in the body from sources such as nuts, seeds, veggies, cereals, and fruits.

Some scientists have suggested that l-carnitine can assist in muscle development and decreasing hunger or the feeling of weakness associated with dieting. But while l-carnitine should help improve athletic performance, there is no scientific evidence to date showing l-carnitine to have a significant influence on weight loss.

Along with body builders and other athletes, l-carnitine is used by people with amino acid pr protein deficiency including breast-feeding women, children, vegans and premie infants.

Scientists have speculated that carnitine has a variety of other benefits including treating shock, hyperthyroidism, Peyronie's disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, male infertility, kidney disease and hemodialysis, Down's Syndrome, Alzheimers, dementia, memory impairment, alchol-related liver disease, and anorexia.
